SETUP GUIDE

One PC package.
One QR scan.

PhoneToPC is designed for first-time setup without router changes or manual relay configuration. Start on the Windows PC that will store your files.

Before you begin

Windows PC

Windows 10 or 11, x64. Keep the PC powered on whenever you want remote access. At least 2 GB of free disk space is reserved before uploads are accepted.

Android phone

Android 8 or newer. The phone and PC can be on the same Wi-Fi for local setup, or use the relay flow for mobile data and different networks.

1. Install the Windows host

  1. Download PhoneToPC for Windows and run the installer.
  2. Extract the ZIP to a normal folder.
  3. Run Setup-PhoneToPC.cmd.
  4. PhoneToPC installs under your local Windows profile and opens the setup page.

Per-installation API, JWT and relay keys are generated locally. The distributable package does not contain shared credentials.

2. Pair Android

  1. Open the PhoneToPC setup page on the PC.
  2. Choose Wi-Fi or mobile data access.
  3. Display the pairing QR code.
  4. Open the Android app and press Scan QR Code.

The QR payload configures the relay address, device ID and short-lived pairing flow. You do not need to type server addresses on the phone.

After a successful pairing, the setup wizard is no longer shown on normal app launches. The Gallery tab loads lightweight previews first, then replaces them with sharper thumbnails as they arrive.

  • Gallery: camera roll backup, remote browsing, upload and download.
  • Files: browse and sync the Documents library.
  • On device: keep selected remote files available offline.
  • Settings: connection health, backup policies and security controls.

Remote access

The PC creates an outbound authenticated websocket tunnel to the relay. No inbound router port or direct LAN fallback is required. If the PC is offline, remote requests fail closed with a temporary unavailable response.

Troubleshooting

The QR page does not open

Confirm the PhoneToPC tray host is running. On the PC, open http://127.0.0.1:5157/pair/relay.

Android reports that the device was not found

Wait until the PC setup page shows the relay tunnel as connected, then generate a fresh QR code.

Remote access returns 503

The relay cannot currently see an active tunnel for the PC. Keep the PC host running and check the public service status.
